Mongoose GPS trackers let you see where your vehicle is, where it has been, and what it has been doing — from your phone or any computer. There are no subscriptions, no contracts and no monthly fees. The app and the website are both free to use for as long as you own the tracker.
That is the main difference between Mongoose and most tracking services in New Zealand. Where others charge a monthly platform fee per vehicle, you buy the tracker once and run it on a prepay SIM. For a single vehicle, or a fleet of ten, that difference adds up quickly over the life of the unit.
What you can do with it
Live location — see where the vehicle is now, or where it was last reported.
History playback — replay where the vehicle went, with time, date and speed.
Trip detail — ignition status, time parked, driving information.
Remote commands — set tracker parameters from the app’s command panel.
Theft alerts — with the SP904 Security Pack, your installer can link the tracker to your existing alarm’s siren output, so the tracker sends you a text if the alarm triggers.
You can log in with the tracker’s IMEI number and password, and your details are remembered for next time. If you run more than one tracker, we can set up a user account so you can see every vehicle at once or individually — again at no charge.
Who it suits
The VT4G works the same way whether you are tracking your own car, a few trade vans, or a larger fleet of trucks and commercial vehicles. Common uses in New Zealand are theft recovery, keeping track of vehicles other people drive, logging business use for expenses, and knowing when a vehicle arrived on site.
You will need a SIM card
A GPS tracker needs a mobile SIM to send its location data. This is the part that catches people out. The SIM must support voice, text and data — data-only cards are not recommended, because they limit or prevent both setup and alerts. Retail shops often sell whatever they have rather than what the tracker needs, and 2G, 3G and 4G are not interchangeable.
The prepay SIM cards we supply are pre-activated and ready to use, loaded with $20 of credit. That is enough for setup plus roughly two to three months of normal use, since in ordinary operation the tracker uses only a small amount of data. Spark, One NZ and 2degrees networks are all supported.
Installation
A hardwired tracker stays powered from the vehicle and is not visible in the cabin, which is what makes it useful for theft recovery — a plug-in unit is the first thing a thief removes. Looms are available for the relevant models, and fitting is normally done by an installer.
